You can just do things

I couldn't pick a newsletter tool, so I fixed one instead

The subject line is borrowed from Sam Altman. I didn't really get it until I tried it.

I was stuck choosing how to run this newsletter: listmonk or beehiiv. Self-host it, or pay for it?

Then I found Mailcheap, Marc Lou's open-source take on beehiiv. One catch: it could only send through Amazon SES. No SMTP, so no way to use our own mail server.

So I fixed it. I added SMTP support, plus the pieces that let it run on any server without SES, Vercel or Upstash. Then I opened a pull request (https://github.com/marclou/mailcheap/pull/6) so everyone gets it.

You're reading this because I did. This email came from our own mail server, not Amazon's

Next time you're stuck between two options, remember there's often a third.

You can just do things.
